Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline: GREAT NEWS FOR CAT LOVERS

Voting unanimously on Friday, November 6, the City Council of Los Angeles passed an ordinance which bans the declawing of cats. City Council President Eric Garcetti added an "urgency clause" to the ordinance which ensures its taking effect before 1/01/10. This was essential as California has passed a law which prevents cities and counties from regulating any further declawing bans.

Councilman Paul Koretz, and Councilman Bill Rosendahl proposed the ordinance. Councilman Koretz said, "We need to ban declawing, which is one of the most cruel practices. The obvious truth is that declawing does nothing good for cats. It is not clipping nails. It is actually amputation, sometimes leaving cats crippled and in pain for the rest of the lives."

Santa Monica, San Francisco, and Beverly Hills have also passed ordinances which will prevent feline declawing. Malibu is considering a resolution.

Representing over 6,100 veterinary professionals across the state, the California Veterinary Medical Association opposed these ordinances.

Declaw surgery is described by the US Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital as a permanent surgical precedure where the last bone, phalanx and claw of each toe on a cat's paw is amputated.

This is great news for cat lovers that abhor this cruel and inhumane surgery. It is about time!!

The city of Berkeley approved a declaw ban on Thursday, November 5, 2009. They need to hear from folks who support them in a final vote to ban declawing which will be held on Tuesday, November 10.To contact the Board of Supervisors, here is the list of their email adresses. E-MAIL ADDRESSES FOR THE BERKELEY CITY SUPERVISORS:mayor@CityofBerkeley.info, lmaio@CityofBerkeley.info, dmoore@CityofBerkeley.info, manderson@CityofBerkeley.info, jarreguin@CityofBerkeley.info, lcapitelli@CityofBerkeley.info, swengraf@CityofBerkeley.info, kworthington@CityofBerkeley.info, gwozniak@CityofBerkeley.info

I do hope that the rest of the country will follow suit and join the over 37 countries around the world which have already banned declawing.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Friday: Become a Farmer

While Fridays are devoted to pet of the week on Frequently Feline, I just had to share something that tickled my funny bone this morning. Marty, my husband, stopped me in my tracks while I was about to start my morning litter box patrol. He laughingly said to me, "You have been featured in the NEW YORK TIMES this morning." Of course I was taken aback and wondered what that was all about. Had I been finally "discovered"?

Apparently my addiction to a Zygna game on Face Book is one that is being shared by over 67 million people. I listened in fascination as my husband read to me the article he had just downloaded onto his Kindle, laughing so hard, identifying with each of the statements made. Aren't electronic gadgets amazing?

While I do not go so far as some folks, who carry their laptops around with them so as not to miss harvest or planting time, I could totally feel a rush of compassion for these highly motivated cyber farmers. I particularly loved a comment made by a pregnant woman who was longing for ice cream; her husand letting her know in no uncertain terms that she would have to wait until he finished harvesting his raspberries.

So what does this have to do with cats? FarmVille has not yet added felines to the rather extensive choice of farm animals which may be purchased for farm coins or cash,or given as gifts to friends and neighbors, but the other popular Zygna game, Farm Town has developers who totally "grok" the necessity of cats on farms. Domestic animal lovers can also place dogs on their farms to keep those pesky foxes at bay.

I highly recommend these games to Face Book users! Tending to one's crops and farm animals can put players into almost a meditative state. It is relaxing, fun and for sure gives players the opportunity to plant beautifully creative farms, milk cows and goats, harvest duck feathers, horsehair and angora wool.

You can meet lots of friendly folks who are eager to help their neighbors care for their farms.

There are pink and brown cows which yeild flavored milk and a few suprise animals that pop up now and then that need to be adopted.

Watch the Zygna video to learn more about this very engaging game.

Hope you enjoyed this little production!

Silent Sunday On Frequently Feline

This kitten pops up in all the most unexpected places. The title of the video uploaded to YouTube by nalts is entitled, "I Are Cute Kitten". Enjoy this very adorable little kitty.

Although I consider some of these "spots" in which this kitten shows up to be somewhat dangerous, her PAWRENTS were supervising her carefully.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Tucker

The other day a friend from Maine emailed me with an attached photo of Tucker, his daughter Heather's 16 month- old Maine Coon mixed breed. In this photo, Tucker is being held by Heather's fiance, Dave who may be doing some weight lifting exercises.,

Heather rescued Shadow, (Tucker's mother) from the street in New Haven, as a scraggly and very underweight cat. After much needed veterinary care, and some tender love in her new home, Heather noticed that Shadow was putting on weight in her belly area.

Sure enough Shadow was pregant and soon gave birth to three adorable kittens. Two were shorthairs, and the longhaired kitten, a special baby kit, was named Tucker. His two sisters were adopted by a friend, but Tucker had woven his magic spell into her heart and home.
Tucker has many Maine Coon traits and loves to play in water. He and his mother communicate with the famous Maine Coon " coos". And while Tucker is by no means a small cat, since Maine Coons can take up to 5 years to fully mature, Heather thinks that Tucker may get "even more enormous".

Shadow must have been putting out those "rescue me" vibes and Heather heeded the calls. NowTucker and Shadow are absolutely adored in the way that all cats deserve.

Tucker is our Pet of the Week so please leave a round of aPAWs, conCATulating Tucker and his caring human "mom" as well by leaving a comment for them.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Most Unusual

While Sand Cranes are not ususally considered "pets" in the traditional way of thinking, this beauty seems to enjoy hanging out near our pharmacy very often. I do hope no one is feeding him. He is not at all shy, and loved posing for this photograph. I don't know much about these birds but is it common for them to bond with humans?

Since his demeanor seemed so unique, I had to bestow upon him the honor of Pet of the Week for this magnificent bird.

Would someone please be kind enough to give him a name in comments?

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline

This may well not be a typical "Silent Sunday" on Frequently Feline. Since the video contains instructual information about how to teach your cat to "yodel", it only makes sense that this regular weekly submission has to be somewhat tailored.

No cats were harmed in the filming of this video, which was made with a great deal of humor and tongue-in-cheek.

So enjoy the rather unique lesson, and join me in a giggle or two.

Hope you enjoyed it, and do leave a comment if you are so inspired. Thanks!

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Abigail

Abigail, our Pet of the Week is a very special senior catizen, who has reached the amazing age of 25. She owns Doug, the pharmacy manager in the pharmacy where my dear friend Donna is a licensed pharmacy tech.

Donna is a passionate cat lover, has had the honor of being Abigail's surrogate care taker bestowed upon her, and takes care of Abigale when Doug is on vacation. Donna is totally in love with Abigail and treasures the time she spends with her.

While Abigail sometimes has difficulty eating as she has lost many of her teeth, she loves to be carried around while Donna is preparing her food, which is done with tender loving care. Abigail eats cat food mixed with some warm water to enhance its aroma, a jar of baby food and special kitty vitamins.

Amazingly Abigail also manages to get her share of the dry food which is left for her and her younger feline cohort, Hailey. Donna also shared that Abigail recognizes the sound of her car when she drives up to the house, even though Doug thinks that Abigail is deaf. Donna is convinced that since Doug is a pharmacist, that he has invented some feline longevity medication! But this suspicion of course, is just a joke between them.

So let's conCATulate Abigail as our "Very Special Senior" Pet of the Week, Doug for his profound love for his kitty, and of course, Donna for the extra attention and the special place that Abigail holds in her heart.

Please leave some apaws for them by leaving a conCatulatory comment!

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline:Mean Kitty Fame

Purrhaps Cory has been to a few cat shows lately, and has been influenced by those show judges that s t r e t c h out cats to their full length when in the show ring. Since cats love to stretch, it follows that Sparta and Loki enjoy Cory's attention.

Enjoy this little video by Themeankitty and leave a comment for us:)

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Adorable Kitty

This little water drinker sure caught my eye. He was so compelling that he had to be our pet of the week. Of course he is my feline "nephew", Chester, who owns one of my dearest friends, Donna!

Don't you just love that happy expression on his little "puss" as he laps happily away at fresh, clean water?

So conCATulations Chester for receiving the title of our Pet of the Week. And a big apaws for the great photo taken by Donna:) Please leave purring comments for both of them:)

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline

I am a huge fan of The Mean Kitty Videos. Cory obviously adores his kitties since he is always uploading new videos about them, chronically their daily lives.

I always wondered how Sparta reacted when Loki was introduced to the household, and happily I found a video "diary" of the beginning of a very remarkable and close friendship.

Hope you enjoy this treat.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline:Meet Trinity

You can easily see just how happy and trusting Trinity, who owns my friend Andy, shows off her lounging style with delight.

It gives me pleasure to announce that Trinity is our Pet of the Week. The photo was such a blast and so humorous, and captured by an adoring kitty servant so skillfully, it was a no brainer.

Please leave a ConCATulary comment for Trinity and Andy! She will be ever so thrilled. Trinity is her heart!

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline

Spend a moment watching Sparta, and enjoying his beauty. Uploaded to YouTube by TheMeanKitty, one of my favorite video artists, this brief glimpse of a kitty that is so famous and adored, really spoke to me

Isn't Sparta just gorgeous? Hope you enjoyed a moment of kitty delight.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Bonnie

I so enjoy "meeting" folks from Great Britain. I love the way they pamper and spoil their cats and show their strong affection toward their "moggies".

Fran, a cat lover par excellence, adopted Bonnie, who is around two years old. Bonnie was "passed from pillar to post" and was found through a local charity shop where the woman in charge wanted "rid of her". Poor Bonnie sat in a cutlery drawer, too frightened to move.

But that was eight months ago, and as you can see, she is coming into herself, full of confidence and trust. Her tail is gorgeous now. She loves to hang out on top of the fridge in Fran's kitchen, but of course has full run of the house. Bonnie also spends time in the garden, sunning herself, and enjoying other feline companionship.

Beautiful Bonnie is our Pet of the Week. Please leave a congratulatory comment for Fran and Bonnie.

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline

I need to thank Jo Deibel for sharing this remarkably touching and beautiful video of a race horse that was not" fast enough at the track to earn a living".

Happily, Dustin's Dreamer, a gorgeous Thoroughbred was given a second chance and a forever loving home thanks to Dustin, his exercise rider who saved him from the slaughter house.

I am sure you will be as deeply moved as I was, watching this magnificent video of Dustin's Dream's rescue, uploaded to YouTube by Toddyboy68. It is truly inspirational.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Venus

Venus, the brightest star in the evening sky and the goddess of beauty, must have been an inspiration for Jessy to name her beautiful Jack Russell/Pug mix.

Venus is 18 months old. One of her favorite things in the world is to get kisses from her feline sister, "Pepsi".

She also enjoys being a canine "clown" from time to time and has a fabulous sense of humor!

Our Pet of the Week honor is bestowed upon Venus. So let's give Jessy those well deserved congratulatory comments. Bravo Venus and Jessy!

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline: Cat Toy of Interest?

I have tried so many of these toys with our cats, and most of the time they fall on deaf "paws". So quickly they get bored.. sigh..

But when I first watched this video by Aaron Rift (who has done it again with another new charming addition to his series), I was struck and purrhaps more hopeful that our cats might be drawn to this toy.

The calico kitty seemed to be entranced and so involved playing with the toy that I had hope.

This said, wait till you watch the end of the video however, and you decide if this is such a captivating contraption.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Sabu and Mandy Loo Hoo

It is really fun when I can have a "two for one" Pet of the Week, with such two outstandingly gorgeous felines. Both of these beauties own DBDustbuny and I am sure they know just how to wrap her around their paws.

I thought they just had that "look" that deserved claim to fame, no matter how long it lasts. These kitties have PURRSONALITY to spare.

So let's send a rounding sound of apaws to Sabu and Mandy Loo Hoo and DBDustbuny for this weekly honor, and leave an appreciative comment for them all.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Pompy

Andy is an 89 year-old senior citizen residing in California. He is owned by Pompy, a faithful 14- year-old apricot poodle who is super attached to his human companion. It is said that they are almost "glued at the hip".

Pompy sulks when he cannot go out with Andy on those occasions where doggies are not allowed. He can also be very aggressive for a "little" dog, obviously not knowing that his stature is somewhat diminuative.

It is so heartwarming to see two "seniors" who are so obviously in love with one another. It surely gives credence to how important our pets are to us, especially as we get older.

Pompy has earned the honor of being our Pet of the Week. Let's leave both Andy and Pompy a round of apaws and congratulate Pompy on his Internet claim to fame, by leaving a comment for them.

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline: The Water Faucet

Some just love to play in their water. I know several cats that will play in it and love to dip their paw in and drink from their paws! But the reason escapes me. Obviously it must be fun for them because cats rarely do anything that is not entertaining at all. I know that many cats LOVE it when you turn on the faucet as long as a bath is not on the agenda. This video uploaded to YouTube by celticcello certainly illustrates a water lover.

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline: Swimming Kitty?

This little video really caught my attention. It is, of course very unique. I suspect I was drawn to it, because I recently have started swimming every day for an enjoyable form of exercise.

Of course I have no lofty ideas that our cats would be at all interested in purrsuing something of this nature.

Apparently this calico cat is a water loving feline from the get -go, so it was not much of a stretch to introduce her to the fun sport of SCUBA.

I had to share this, as it really was quite an amazing video uploaded to YouTube by TechPepsi, her human companion. Enjoy.

Don't you think this kitty is rather unusual? Leave a comment and let me know.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Etty

The internet has given me the opportunity to meet some preffy nifty cat people in England. One of my long distance "pen" pals sent me a photograph of a kitty that has stolen her heart, as well as one of her dear friend, Fran who already had 15 rescue cats sharing her home..

So this is a short story about Etty, a very lucky cat who managed to find some angelic folks who started taking care of her. Etty was a kitty that came to be fed for awhile. She would hang outside the door when she noticed that my friend was feeding other needy cats and dogs in the area. Slowly she began to trust the nice humans that were taking such good care of her. She slowly began to trust and settle down and even delightedly started to purr.

To make this rather long story a bit shorter , what is most important is that this beautiful kitty was obviously not receiving the care she desperately needed. It didn't take much for Fran to decide to take her into her already overflowing house to give her the permanent forever loving home she deserves.

So I thought she deserved to be our Pet of the Week, and my heart goes out to my friends, and Fran for their kindness and love. Let's give Fran and Etty a few comments of conCATulations for this honor.

But I must say that it is my honor to have "met" these ladies from across the ocean who share the love of felines, which makes them very special to me.

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline: Relaxing Video

Aaron Rift of "The Cat Diaries" has such a talent for catching his cats in such typical feline behavior. This very peaceful video might lull my readers into a deep sleep, but a rather startling ending will rouse any viewers from a pleasant doze, trust me.

So without further ado, I invite you to spend a moment with a very cute feline-oriented interlude.

Were you startled? Leave a comment and let me know.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Dottie

My friend Amy is an animal lover, extraordinaire. Not only does she dote on her furry "kids" but she has been blessed with a pet loving heart as big as all outdoors.

A few weeks ago, Amy sent me a photograph of Dottie, a beautiful black and white kitty perched high on Amy's cat tower. I bet she is "top" cat in her household. I loved the pose and the expression of contentment on Dottie's face that was quite apparent to me.

Today's "Pet of the Week" honor is bestowed on Dottie.

Let's give a rounding paw's up to both by leaving a conCatulatory comment.

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline

Some cats are more graceful than others, and some are quite adept at opening drawers and actually getting inside them. This cat doesn't seem to have all of the moves down "pat" just yet, don't you think?

Purrhaps you might leave a short little "mew" with suggestions for her to improve her act in a comment.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Mini Filly

It seems that it has been ages since I featured an equine on Frequently Feline. A friend sent me these photos of a new miniature filly born ten days ago, in Victoria, Australia. She stands 15 inches high.

Bliss, her mother is quite excited with the arrival of her baby, which needs a name, by the way. The community into which she was born is quite delighted with the new addition, and many are getting involved in a competition to name the filly.

The miniature filly is the smallest born at the farm Riverdance. The breeders were even suprised at her birth, a month early. She is perfectly healthy and sound and delights in her hanging out with her companion.
Sam, Bliss and baby out for a stroll
Since she is so adorable and unique, she is our Pet of the Week. Let's pick some names for her, and maybe we can send them to her breeder for consideration.
What name would you suggest? Leave a comment and share.

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline: Cheap Cat Toy

Aaron Rift of TheCatDiaries seems to get his paws on some very inexpensive cat toys to entertain his feline friends. This one, which has captivated one of his kitties cost all of $2.00at Wal-Mart.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Mushu

Today is a very "special" Pet of Week on Frequently Feline. It is no secret that I am a strong advocate for banning declaw surgery in cats, A new support and advocacy group has started on Yahoo groups to work toward that goal. Through this group I have "met" some amazing folks. One of them is Susan.

Susan adopted a purebred Abysinnian from a local, high-kill shelter. Since he was declawed he has caused more urine/property damage than any of her other pets combined. Susan had his paws x-rayed due to the continuing sensitivity in his paws. Her vet suspects that he has developed arthritis in his paws, which is a common "side-effect" of declaw surgery. Her vet also thinks that he has never recovered from the initial shock/pain of his declawing surgery.

He was discovered on Petfinder. An excerpt from the description that Petfinder provided to find a home for this kitty, "Here's a beautiful Abyssinian, Mushu Dragon, that we rescued from a high kill humane shelter. He suffers from chronic urinary tract infections and paw pain, and unfortunately the result of these issues is that he doesn't use the litterbox. He is on several homeopathic remedies & medications, plus a special diet to keep his urinary tract as clear as possible. His diet and remedies cost about $100 a month to maintain. Because of the discomfort from his declawed paws, Mushu will not use them to dig litter in the litterbox. He is a nervous cat and routinely tears the fur from his backside with his teeth so he is mostly bald on his back & sides. Despite his daily discomfort, Mushu still loves a warm lap to cuddle in and his most favorite past time is rolling around in cat nip!"

Mushu has been chosen as our Pet of the Week. He is an ambassador for the cause in helping to spread factual information about the common negative and painful side-effects of declaw surgery. Please save paws and do not declaw.

A hearty welcome and round of conCATulations to this beautiful boy, and thanks to Susan who also cares for over 30 cats a day, combining her purrsonal cats with a feral colony that she protects. Please leave both of them a comment of support.

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline: A Commercial?

Ok! Aaron Rift of The Cat Diaries has done it again. I really do hope that he and his kitties won the Heinze Commercial contest. I thought this was quite creative, and Aaron and his kitties seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Jason and Tyler

The "cat is out of the bag", so to speak, since I have already disclosed that classic silver American Shorthair cats are one of my favorites breeds. Their stunning markings with that contrasting bullseye pattern just gets my heart beating just a little faster.

So it was, of course, wonderful to meet my online pal, Carol, who shares her home with two beauties. Jason and Tyler are really just gorgeous.

It is an honor for me to select them as our Pets of the Week. Let's give them all a cat lover's round of apaws, and conCATulations.

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline

I love British Shorthairs, especially classic silver tabbies. They are the "cat's meow" as far as I am concerned. These two kitties, named AC and DC, are definitely affected by a box of catnip. I wonder which one is "hogging" the goodies.

This video was uploaded to YouTube by Sanshine020. Now if I only understood the Reggae music lyrics in German.

Sanshine020's title for the video is "AC en DC high van de catnip.
Enjoy watching the video, and if your kitties are watching as well, but have not caught a contact catnip buzz, maybe you can give them some for their delight.

Did you enjoy this video? Please leave a comment and let me know.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Kitty Needs a Name

I have seen some adorable kittens throughout my many years living with kitties, but this little girl, whose photo I ran across uploaded by a young lady who found her wandering around the neighborhood with no sign of mother or siblings really touched me. The young lady has been advertising her in hopes of finding her real owner.

I thought she was such a pretty kitten that she is our pet of the week. She does need a name, however. Purrhaps the energy of naming her will help her to be returned to her real owner or will help the young lady to be able to adopt her.

So please leave a comment and name this kitten and conCATulate her on her honorable selection.

The famous expression, " good things come in threes" fits this photograph.

I think this is true, and I bet that these adorable Shih -Tzus, who own my friend Vicki will agree with the statement. They sure know what side of their bread is buttered. Talk about spoiled pooches:)

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline: Video Quiz

Happy Sunday!

I found this video while surfing in search of an amusing Sunday item. Although the video does hold the viewer's interest, there are several interactions which may not be in the best interest of this beautiful cat named Sparta.

Can you find them and list your observations in comments? I am very curious for reactions to this video uploaded to YouTube by MeanKitty.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline:The Odd Couple

These two fur kids were so adorable, that while I don't know who they are, or to whom they belong, they tickled my funny-bone a lot. Their relationship can teach the world how to respect and appreciate differences.

So I made them my pets of the week. Of course a caption to the photo would be terrific. So please get creative and leave a caption in comments.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Maxie

Maxie just celebrated her 12th birthday the other day! Rescued by her wonderful adoptive human "mom", Jessie after being found buried alive when she was only a day old. Such a tiny little girl.

And here she is . . . today . . . cuddled close with Jessie.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This photo clearly demonstrates that.

Maxie was chosen as our pet of the week, in celebration for her zest for life, and as a special birthday present.

So please do leave congratulations for her by leaving a comment.

Happy Birthday Maxie. Many, many happy returns of the day!

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline

The first thought that popped into my head while I was watching this cute kitty video, was the song from Gilbert and Sullivan's famous operetta, "The Mikado", was "Three Little Maids From School". Now please don't ask me why . . . sometimes I have strange associations to things.

So with no further amew, let me share it with you.

But if you listen carefully there is faint "oriental" music in the background. Maybe my association was purely unconscious? What do you think? Leave a comment and let me know.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Sandy

I am just delighted with the news from my friend Pam, who three weeks ago adopted a 12-year-old ginger tabby from a local rescue organization.

His owner had recently passed away, and his children had brought him to the vet to have him euthanized. The vet refused to put him to sleep, and called the rescue organization, "New Beginnings of Animals. Pam was at PetSmart, which has an adoption program, getting some "stuff" for her cats, and all of a sudden noticed Sandy. Tt was love at first sight.

What is also amazing is that Sandy fit into her household almost immediately. She describes Sandy's personality as "incredibly sweet".

Stories like this confirms my belief that our cats do find us. There is something magical about how they do this, I think.

So to celebrate Sandy's beauty and his new forever permanent home, he is our pet of the week. ConCATulations to these two new friends. May they share many happy and healty years together.

Please leave a congratulatory comment to celebrate his rescue and adoption.

Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline

Sleeping in on Sundays can be delicious. The problem is that I have difficulty with my "zzzzzzzzs" at times. But when I found this little video, uploaded to YouTube by ShallAdoreCats it was better than any prescribed sleep enhancing medication.. and I didn't even have to submit the bill to my H.M.O. (Himalayan Meditation Organization).

Enjoy these charming kittens. But do try to keep your eyes open so you can watch it.

It seems that black and white kitties have made quite an impact on as of late. Pirate, a very attractive Tuxedo kitty who owns my friend Donna, is grinning like the Cheshire Cat. I wonder what is on his mind, with such an intense expression? I bet he is holding onto some fabulous secret.

So without further Amew... Mr. Pirate receives the prestigious award of our pet of the week! ConCATulations to Donna and her very handsome boy.

Please leave a conCatulary comment for these two!

We all know that famous Beatle song, "Sexy Sadie". But I found a flirtatious feline named Sadie on YouTube, that really illustrates this behavior in a very upfront and straight-forward manner.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Nyx

It gives me a great deal of pleasure to conCATulate JJ, my internet buddy who recently opened her heart and home to a brand new kitten. I will be writing more extensively about her in the very near future, as her story is magical. All I can say right now is this is a story of serendipity and synchronicity

So without further Amew.. I introduce Nyx, the primordial Greek Goddess of the Night as our pet of the week.

Lets leave them both a hearty round of apaws for receiving this honor. I know that JJ is one very happy kitten "pawrent" bursting with love for her new little one.

This tickled my funny bone and I hope you were also amewsed.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet The Fosters

I just love "meeting" folks on the Internet. Kakfly sent some adorable photos of her new foster kits. Since she is working as a vet tech assistant recently, with the huge number of litters being born in the spring and many litters of orphan kits that need a mom to feed them, Kakfly has undertaken the "job" of being a foster mom as well. She thinks they may be "coonies". These guys are three weeks old! Their names are Pewter, Pawlee and Paco.

Of course Kakfly is trying hard to remember that she is just "fostering" them, and I bet that there is going to be a difficult decision ahead in several weeks. But my hat is off to her for taking in these little balls of fluff.

Therefore they are our Pets of the Week! I just think they are sooooooo sweet.

Let's give them all a round of apaws by leaving a comment.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Needs a Caption

I get so many photographs of cats that sometimes I misplace both the cat and the cat's servant's names. But this kitty was just so adorable that I was compelled to post her picture. This being said, the photo needs a caption, of course

Don't you think she is just as cute as she can be? I just love her looks and of course, her very inviting position! What do you think? Please leave a caption in a comment.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet the Puppy Soccer Team

These two adorable Vizsla puppies, are part of the Hungarian Puppy Soccer Team, and are very busy in training. Jim Arnold, their team photographer must be exausted from following the team around the world.

Breaking news, heard on the puppy soccer grapevine is that these pups are working very hard to be part of the next summer Olympic team, but of course in the dog division.

For a delightful treat, visit Jim Arnold's Website. His photography is really amazing.

So lets send these guys lots of cheers and good luck messages, and congratulate them for being selected as Pets of the Week.

Chester is a very handsome boy! I love his facial expression and how regally he sits surveying his environment . . . or he is checking out one of the other felines that occupies my friend Donna's house.

No matter what he is thinking, I just had to make him our Pet of the Week.

Let's leave some resounding apaws for Chester and Donna on his stellar win, in a conCATulary comment.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline:Need a Translation of Feline Talk

Since Easter falls on this coming Sunday I thought I would break with tradition once again, and share this adorable video of a lilac point Siamese who is certainly not at loss for words.
I chucked so hard watching him that I just had to add it to my blog. He reminded me so much of my Oriental Lilac Point, Hush Puppy, who also possesses the gift of gab. Uploaded to YouTube by otterwhiskers, it is one of my favorites.

Don't Declaw: Save Paws: Friday on Frequently Feline

Josef using his scratching post: Photo Courtesy of Ruth and Babz

While Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline is generally devoted to "Pet of the Week" , today I am breaking with tradition, to implore our readers and their friends to consider joining together to ban declaw surgery once and for all.

A few facts about Declaw Surgery:

1.While this surgery is offered throughout the United States, it is considered to be animal cruelty in 25 countries around the world; therefore the surgery is banned. Recovery from the procedure causes cats excrutiating pain. While most vets tell clients that it is no "big deal" cats suffer needlessly.

2. Declawing frequently results in behavioral disturbances which are far more destructive than scratching behaviors.. Often cats resort to biting, which is far more dangerous to humans than a scratch, once the cat realises they no longer have claws for defense. Cats are smart and quickly learn how to protect themselves.

3. Cats often stop using their litter boxes as litter is very painful to their sensitive paws. Declawed paws can remain exquisitely tender and sensitive to pain long after the "healing" process is finished. As a result of this dilemma, cats often resort to inappropriate elimination and will not use their litter boxes. Therefore if "destructive" scratching furniture and carpet behaviors were the primary reasons to declaw a cat to prevent rehoming it, the inappropriate elimination will certainly be a cause for surrender to shelter or abandonment.

4. Cats often develop arthritis as they age brought on by the disfigurement and misalignment of their toes.

5. Cats need their claws to be able fully stretch out their bodies; an essential part of a cat's behavior. Toe amputation prevents the cat from fully utlizing their muscles.

6. Cats also need their claws for balance, to prevent serious falls from high places. Climbing is one of a feline's natural instincts.

For more information about why cats should never be declawed, visit:
The Declaw Story.

Please sign this petition and also widely circulate this article. Together we can make a huge difference in the lives of all cats.

Thank you so much for taking action.

Hybrid Pets Make a Huge Leap in Development

While perusing "Catster" this morning, (one of my favorite websites), I learned of a new and possibly frightening genetic program which has been developed to allow cats and dogs to inter-breed. Since hybrids seem to be the rage these days, scientists have been working feverishly to create a canine that has many of the fine attributes of a feline.

Perhaps the dog will purr? Maybe this canine will use a litter box with no training? I suspect that we will easily be able to train our cats to really be "watch cats", to help protect our families.
I tell ya, I was simply amazed when I read their article this morning.

So I strongly suggest you read more about this, and decide if this is phenominal breakthrough would be something of interest to you. What do you think?

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline-Pet of the Week

My friend Sondra has a heart as big as all outdoors. She works as a Veterinary Assistant in an animal clinic, showering "her" patients with love and compassion.

So, when a needy Siamese cat was brought in for vetting by the local Humane Society and having no foster home available, he would have been "tossed into the Humane Society trailer with 20 other cats", Sondra came to the rescue and brought him home.

Sondra and her husband named him Mr. Bigglesworth, and is affectionally called, "Mr. Big".

He is about 6-7 years old, weighs 8 pounds and is a totally healthy kitty. Slowly, Sondra is introducing Mr. Big to their resident kitties, Grace and Nick, who are not tickled with a new brother, but hopefully all will work out well, and their household will be adorned with three happy kitties.

Since Mr. Big has such a sweet expression and is very kind to Sondra, we are bestowing him with the title of "Pet of the Week".

Please leave a conCATulary comment, with glow and best wishes for a positive outcome for the trio.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline-Pet of the Week

Xena at 8 weeks of age

Surfing the Internet as much as I do, it is inevitable that I "meet" some fascinating feline fanciers who share my passion for cats. While answering a question on Yahoo Answers the other day, I made a new friend, Angela, who's kitty, Xena, caught my eye!

Angela gave her that "Warrior Kitten" name as she was a fiercely brave kitten who "never backed down". Angela met Xena when the mamma cat, a Domestic Short Hair grey tabby, with 5 kittens two days old, was brought into the vet's office where Angela was working. Angela, seeing the kitten's unique markings, fell in love and "had to" adopt her ... and it has been a love affair for 8 years now.

Ms Xena is a Diva kitty. She loves to stare at her reflection in the mirror, admiring her reflection. Well, this is certainly not unreasonable for such a beautiful girl!

Xena is her soul kitty, who has added so much to her life. This is a friendship which was destined to be!

So without further amew, Xena is our beautiful Snow Shoe kitty Pet of the Week.

Please leave a comment of conCATulations to Xena's "mom" Angela, and her "dad", James, and of course lots of head bonks to this fabulous feline.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Happy Birth Announcement

While you might not guess it, from some of the terrible weather which has been plaguing some of the areas in the country, Spring is just around the corner. This is the season when mares deliver their foals who will be actively cavorting in pastures and paddocks along side their mothers.

It gives me great joy to announce one of these births. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jackson, who owned Barbaro, a horse who stole the hearts of so many people, and who will forever be remembered by horse lovers around the world, recently shared the news about their newest colt, Barbaro's third full baby brother.

Born to La Ville Rogue and sired by Dynaformer, the colt was born on March 10, at 10:45 PM at Mill Ridge Farm near Lexington, Kentucky. At birth, he weighed 145 pounds. I highly suspect that this colt will be named Sereno for the fourth hound in that famous family lithograph owned by the Jacksons.

According to "Blood Horse Magazine" Headley Bell, the managing partner at Mill Ridge said, “He is a good size colt with plenty of leg and size as indicative of his weight. A bay colt, he only has a marking on the center of his forehead. Thankfully both mom and baby are well.”

While I do not have a photograph of the newcomer, I had to share a photo of Nicanor, Barbaro's first full brother, shortly after he was born.

And while not considered a "pet", it gives me a great deal of pleasure to bestow the title of Pet of the Week for the new baby.

Please leave a comment of congratulations for the birth of the new colt.

Silent Sunday: Well Almost.. 'Cept for the Snoring!

Cats and deep sleep often go together like apple pie and ice cream. Since this is Silent Sunday, I had to break the tradition and introduce "Java Jackson", who's owner refers to him as "the caffeinated tuxedo", since he tends to "bounce off walls" with his huge output of energy.

I think he was plumb tuckered out, during the filming of this video, uploaded to You Tube by lisacat. A BARC Shelter alumni cat, this cutie pie can sure snore up a storm. And if you listen carefully, his feline friend, Hodge's high pitched snores can be heard in the background.

Do your cats snore? Leave a comment and let us know! Yawning here!

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Needs a Caption for Pet of The Week

Cats can find the darndest places in which to nap. They also can find some of the most amazing hobbies with which they can entertain themselves.

This little guy seems quite "attached" to this planter and shows a keen interest in horticulture, don't you think? Since I don't know the name of the cat, or his cat servant . . . the photo was sent to me by a friend, as it is circulating widely over the Internet, I still had to make him our Pet of the Week.

But I do think the photo needs a caption. So please do contribute some creative ones to add to our viewing pleasure. ConCATulations to whomever shares their home and heart with this very sleepy kitten.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Pet of the Week

I always look forward to email from Jim Arnold. His photographs are delightful. He captures his subjects so beautifully. Check out his very interesting blog.

This little Vizsla puppy, one of 10 in austriasvizslas annual litter was born on January 7. He was almost 4 weeks-of-age when Jim snapped the photo of this very feisty pooch. Since he is just so adorable and has a high "awww" factor, he is our Pet of the Week.

Congratulations to the puppy. Thanks, Jim for sending the photo.

After finishing your "awwws" please do leave a comment.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I introduce this gorgeous Ragamuffin kitty with a very fancy name; Café Mocha Valencia, who is not a calico. She is a Seal Mink Tortie and White.

Adopted by Laura, at an event the shelter to which she volunteers- Purrfect Pals, as Mocha fell in love with Laura from the git go. It was, of course a mutual feeling, with a strong and powerful relationship building from the start.

Sadly, Mocha was surrendered to the shelter due to inappropriate elimination, one of the leading causes of pets being returned to shelters, or abandoned. After some research, Laura discovered that Mocha's former owner, a mean spirited kid, had been cruel to her, causing her to become frightened and anxious. So Laura saved her life, and Mocha contributes so much pleasure and love to her new human "pawrent" and the other pets who share Laura's home.

Mocha is a show girl and loves the limelight. She is currently the #1 Household Pet in the TICA Northwest region and #4 Internationally.

So lets give Mocha and Laura a round of apaws upon her win of Pet of the Week on Frequently Feline. ConCATulations to you both.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Walter

One of my passions is contributing to the cat community at Yahoo Answers. But not only do I enjoy helping folks, the biggest "perk" for me is meeting new people and building friendships.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to connect with a lovely lady from the other side of the "pond", who loves in England. It is amazing how the Internet shrinks the planet, making it possible for folks to connect. Ruth and I quickly discovered that we have a lot in common and, of course swapped photos of our cats. Both of us are July babies, so it had to follow suit that Walter, one of her felines, was born on July 25, 2001.

I fell in love with one of her kitties, Walter, who was named for the street on which he was born. With such an intelligent and beautiful face, it was not difficult at all to claim him as our Pet of the Week. And since today is Friday the 13, for extra luck I chose a black and white kitty.

So please do leave a conCATulary comment for Walter, and Ruth, his feline servant.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Bobby

Helping folks with cat issues is one of my passions. I must admit that I am highly addicted to Yahoo Answers which gives me a great deal of pleasure.

In addition to sharing my knowledge and experience, I enjoy "meeting" new people who share a deep love for the feline species.

One of these folks is a gal named Ashlea who wanted to learn if the kitten she adopted was a particular breed, and of course added a photo to her query. I thought Bobby was such a pretty kitten that I was compelled to make her our Pet of The Week.

ConCATulations to Ashlea and her beautiful fur baby. Please leave a conCatulary comment for them both.

TheCatDiaries always presents such incredible videos! I love their work and the care in which they take to create such interesting topics. This one is one of my favorites, although it is definitely in the Hard Rock CATegory. So enjoy this one, but you might want to turn your sound down just a tad, to protect sensitive kitty ears.

Entitled "Kitty Cat Rock" this is a blast.

Although the music was not "high brow" it was certainly upbeat, right? Leave a comment and share.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Izzy

There is something about kittens that are so appealing. This little lady, named Izzy, turned 6 months-of-age the other day. Her proud adoptive human "mom" brought Izzy into her heart and home in October, 2008, when she was 11 weeks old.

The runt of the litter, she tipped the scales as a light weight at 1.5 pounds, but with loving care and some great food, she is growing into a most beautiful feline. Janis doesn't spoil her at all, of course, but provides her with the best cat accessories she can find.

We happily announce Izzy as our Pet of the Week, and send our conCATulations, of course.
Please leave a round of apaws in comments, for Izzy and Janis for their prestigious award this week.

What I find extremely amusing about felines, is their creativity. What may look like a "boring" object to us, becomes an entertaining playground to these highly intelligent and imaginative creatures.

So take a moment to put your feet up, grab a cup of your favorite beverage and prepare to chuckle a whole lot, watching this cat's total fascination and enjoyment with a simple box.

I bet you laughed out loud! Leave a comment and share your giggles with us.

Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Tigger

One of the things I most enjoy about the Internet is meeting new people! While answering questions on Yahoo Answers in the Cats area, I had a chance to discover an adorable kitten who owns a young lady named Michele. Michele wrote back to me about her 14 week old kitten, Tigger, telling me what she loved best about him. This is what she had to say!

"He is very loving and enjoys his cuddles! However, he is always on the go, playing with this and that, investigating new things, loves to jump around playing with water too - there have been a few times he has even tried to jump into my bath!! Oh yes, at night he enjoys to sleep on my bed, sometimes even under my covers...he is like a teddy bear he has the most amazing soft coat!"

So let's give a round of apaws to Michele, and conCATulations to her kitty, Tigger for becoming this week's "Pet of the Week". Your comments are welcome!
