Silent Sunday on Frequently Feline: The Water Faucet

Some just love to play in their water. I know several cats that will play in it and love to dip their paw in and drink from their paws! But the reason escapes me. Obviously it must be fun for them because cats rarely do anything that is not entertaining at all. I know that many cats LOVE it when you turn on the faucet as long as a bath is not on the agenda. This video uploaded to YouTube by celticcello certainly illustrates a water lover.

Is it possible that running or moving water may appeal to their sense of sight? What do you think? Leave a slightly damp comment and share your opinions.

We had a cat called Bryan who loved playing with water like that cat in the video. He especially loved it when we got the garden hose out lol He had a bad start in life, being found in a pond, in a bag with a brick in.You'd think that would have scared him off water for life.Of course he was never subjected to a bath as here we don't bath cats unless absolutely necessary so he must not have associated running water with a pond or bath of water.

The newest cat in our house, a Siamese named Mr. Bigglesworth, insists on drinking water from the bathroom faucet every time someone goes into the bathroom. In fact, he will sit in front of the bathroom door and call for my husband to come and turn on the water for him. He will drink until the water is turned off.

It's not as if that's the only place he drinks water...he also drinks from all 4 of the water bowls we have around the house for the cats to drink from.

His bloodwork indicates that his kidneys are in good health, so it's not that he's having any kidney issues. He just likes to drink lots of water.

That is so cute. I love to watch animals play in water. In fact, my horse Casper loves to paw in the water trough. Since we are suppose to keep his feet as dry as possible, we had to elevate his trough on blocks to keep him from playing in it.

3 of my cats, Chester, Toey, and Mouse -- every morning when I get up and head to the computer room, they head into the bathroom just in back of me...I HAVE to turn the tub on at a slow flow or fast drip...ditto when I get home from work. Now, mind you, they have a fountain which I keep clean and only fill with PURIFIED water...go figure!

All of my beloved cats love their Drinkwell water fountain, but my calico beauty, Maryam, not only drinks from it, she plays in it (and the faucet, whenever she can)! My Kikko used to love playing in water, and my Sun loved playing in the bathtub and watching me take showers (a peeping Sun...)

Have 7 cats here and actually I have seen 5 of them use their paws to drink out of the water bowls. Why not the other two ? I have no clue.

I enjoyed that. The little cat's paw was really dripping water. I hope he/she wasn't waiting for the water to heat up to tackle that huge pile of laundry in the background. Hmm wouldn't that be good if your cat would do the laundry.
