Animals as Teachers

"South Pacific" was one of my favorite musicals when I was a child. One of the songs from the show made a lasting impression on me since it beautifully illustrated the early teachings about compassion, respect and love for my fellow humans that my father bestowed upon me. I was blessed to be raised to always keep an open mind and heart.

"You've got to be taught to hate and fear, you've got to be taught from year to year, it's got to be drummed in your dear little ear . . . you've got to be carefully taught."    I will never forget these powerfully prophetic words.

When I saw the heart-warming photograph above it triggered the memory of that song. And while we do learn to fear the unknown, and experience its concomitant hatred , we can also be taught, through our relationship with animals, the possibility of allowing ourselves to remain open to the miracle of diversity and how it can enhance our lives.

And when I hear stories about the ease with which different species can so magically connect, I often wonder about our lofty status in the animal kingdom. Who in reality  need to be our teachers? To whom do we we need to pay attention if we are to heal the open wounds from which we suffer?

If we can learn to hate and fear, we can also learn to love and trust if we are willing to do the work.

Watch the inspiring video uploaded to YouTube by normankremer. These powerful teachers give us a delightful lesson upon which to reflect.

This video is priceless as well as the deer peering into the window at the kitty. I am constantly wishing I had my camera with me to capture a rare moment I see when I am out and about. Yesterday,

I bought a special camera to keep in my purse so if I see something that happens rarely, I will be able to get it on film. I am always amazed at some animals I see.

I have even seen a mama duck and her babies out in the road. Now I'll get the picture.

The picture with the deer and cat is absolutely priceless! I'm forever saying the animal kingdom are our greatest teachers. I wrote something a while back about morning doves....I was in the throes of depression and noticed only one flying around from a pair that stay around my home. I watched the female struggle without her mate just to survive....A few months later the female returned with another mate. Her resilance and brave spirit touched me and help me move on myself...Such a simple thing, yet it helped me find a part of myself I had lost with my deafness. Thank you for sharing the video as well dear friend. (Hugs) Indigo

If you ever are blessed with meeting the man who has these 'critters' it is a true blessing. He calls it art as I also do! Anybody who can get through to an animals heart and show them love and respect for one another is far and few between! So this person is indeed an artist and we loved his work when he was in a town close to home! IF ONLY WE COULD ALL GET ALONG...he called it.
