As an avid and some what knowledgeable fan of this sport, it is my opinion that older horses should not be on the track. They are asking for trouble, and these horses should not be subjected to this kind of risk. A lot of people in the industry will keep them on the track, especially geldings because there is no money to be made in the breeding shed. Huge sacrifices every day for the sake of money, and it simply should not be allowed.

That was a good video, being a pretty hardcare racing fan, I'm a bit speechless right now. (Am I ever speechless--LOL)! There are more & more groups thankfully on the rise who are rescuing race horses that need to retire- like Michael Blowen's Old Friends, the Cantor Group in the video from MI etc...

Congress finally met last month in Washington to discuss banning drugs in horse racing in the USA. I think that will help tremendously with breakdowns.

My issue with the Horse Racing industry is beginning their training when the horse is barely two years old!! We aren't finding nearly as many older horses racing now from what I've witnessed, but like Vicki said, unfortunately geldings better have darn good owners or they may be run ragged!! Curlin is a great example of a horse who didn't race as a 2 year old, he is now a very healthy & strong 4 yr old.
