While many people do not consider horses to be in the "pets" category, the folks that I know who share their lives with horses think of them as both beloved pets and, of course, part of their family.
This gorgeous Thoroughbred and former racehorse named Mattsbrotherrobert was rescued from the hands of killer buyers, with the help of contributions from the Friends of Twilight, by Jo Deibel's organization, Angels Acres Horse Haven Rescue . I know that Mattie has had a lot of hoof problems. But he has made amazing progress with the help of his farrier, and the loving care of Jo. I hope he continues to do well and will soon be free of any health problems.
Count me as one of those that consider my horse as much of a furkid as the dog. ;p

AW- Mattie looks Absolutely Gorgeous in that photo!! I agree with you, horses are definitely becoming pets, rather than just a way to get around (like in the ole days) or just another barn animal!!!
When I was working very diligently on the Anti- HS Bill, I received a letter from one of the Members of Congress, including a poem at the bottom of the letter. It was so nice!!! Anyway, the poem refers to horses as Noble Creatures, which they definitely are -- and so much more!! :>)
