Fabulous Friday on Frequently Feline: Meet Sandy

I am just delighted with the news from my friend Pam, who three weeks ago adopted a 12-year-old ginger tabby from a local rescue organization.

His owner had recently passed away, and his children had brought him to the vet to have him euthanized. The vet refused to put him to sleep, and called the rescue organization, "New Beginnings of Animals. Pam was at PetSmart, which has an adoption program, getting some "stuff" for her cats, and all of a sudden noticed Sandy. Tt was love at first sight.

What is also amazing is that Sandy fit into her household almost immediately. She describes Sandy's personality as "incredibly sweet".

Stories like this confirms my belief that our cats do find us. There is something magical about how they do this, I think.

So to celebrate Sandy's beauty and his new forever permanent home, he is our pet of the week. ConCATulations to these two new friends. May they share many happy and healty years together.

Please leave a congratulatory comment to celebrate his rescue and adoption.

What a great story. I am so glad Pam took this pretty fellow and gave him a good home. I am glad the vet would not euthanize him and looked out for his best interest. Best of luck to you both.

UNBELIEVABLE that these people would be so absolutely callous, sick and heartless. They are part and parcel of why this society has hit bottom.

That said, thank God and a compassionate, caring, loving vet for saving a magnificent cat, and Pam for recognizing the treasure Sandy is.

Thanks! Sandy has really found his way into our household (he sleeps curled up to my shoulder now and my cat, Ricki is curled around my head just inches away) and what was particularly poignant to me is that when my Mom passed away 3 1/2 years ago, Jo helped me find a loving home for Mom's cat by the time my plane landed in FL. When I lost a cat to cancer in December, I knew I wanted to give another "elder" another chance. With a 19-year-old cat, I know he's got a lot of years left.

"New Beginnings for Animals" is a wonderful organization here in southern CA. They rescue unwanted pets from vets and shelters, and foster them until they find a new, loving home.

We take such good care of our pets these days that 12 isn't considered "old" in a cat's life anymore.

Sandy is so handsome, and I'm sure he'll give you years of pleasure in return for being rescued by such a kind and loving hu-mom.

I am one of the volunteers at PetSmart from New Beginnings for Animals. From the first day I saw Sandy and heard his story, I was heartbroken for this beautiful cat. He would not come out of his cage, was so depressed, and yet when I would open his cage and pet him, he looked into my eyes as if to say, "Please take me home." This is one cat that especially tugged at my heartstrings, and I'm soooo thrilled he has a new home and is happy. Thanks Pam, for taking him in and for supporting our group.
